Debayan Das

Debayan has completed his Bachelors in History from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. He is presently pursuing an MSc in Social Anthropology as a DAC Scholar at the University of Oxford. Debayan is a social worker dedicated to fostering community engagement, combining independent research and culture and heritage documentation, to amplify unheard voices and inspire positive change. When not in the field, he enjoys reading poetry and non-fiction, and treks through lesser-known trails chasing streams and sunsets somewhere in the Himalayas.

Suchintan Das

Suchintan is a Doctoral Candidate in Global and Imperial History at the University of Oxford where he is also a Rhodes Scholar in residence. He is interested in war and empire in the twentieth century with particular reference to the history of encampment and internment in late- and post-colonial India. He writes occasional political commentaries, plays chess and enjoys music imbued with urban melancholia. His work can be accessed here.

Vighnesh Tekriwal

Vighnesh recently finished his M.A. in English at Ashoka University, Sonepat, where he wrote a dissertation on the portrayal of the courtesan in Premchand’s Sevasadan and M.H. Ruswa’s Umrao Jan Ada. He is currently engaged in independent research and is interested in questions of readership, the public sphere, and the educational value of literature. He enjoys taking long walks, exploring cityscapes, and listening to Indian classical music.

Riya Lohia

Riya is pursuing her Masters in English literature at Shiv Nadar University, Delhi NCR. She is interested in understanding the language of pain and how it narrates selves, especially in relation to women’s experiences. She is captivated by the fleetingness of the ordinary and would like to use oral history to explore some of its facets.

Ananyo Chakraborty

A postgraduate student of History at the University of Delhi, Ananyo is a young scholar and activist interested in questions related to environment, imperialism, and progressive politics. Apart from publishing Protorko, possibly the first socio-political newsletter in Bengali, he likes to contribute occasional opinion pieces in English and Bengali, write poems, and practise music.

Satyam Jha (2002-2021)

Student of History at St. Stephen’s College. Answers I have few; questions I am benevolent with.

Satyam passed away due to COVID-19 on 25th May, 2021. A gifted and generous human being, Satyam enriched the Study Circle in the short time that he was associated with it.

Ritabrata Chakraborty

A graduate of Political Science from Hindu College, Delhi, Ritabrata Chakraborty is interested in questions of development, political economy and climate change. He occasionally ruminates on these through commentaries. Besides, he loves reading in general, and sampling Mughlai cuisine in particular.

Tushar Srivastava

Primarily trained at St Stephen’s College, Tushar is a doctoral candidate at the Department of History, University of Delhi, reading at the borders of history, literature and metaphysics. He can be found trying to find solace in the world of poetry when encountered with the miseries of this world, or otherwise.

Pritha Banerjee

Pritha has completed her Masters in English Language and Literature from the University of Delhi. She aims to begin research on Modern Essay and Discourse, Posthumanism and Children’s Literature, with special emphasis on regional and transcultural literary history. Believing in the transformative power of education, she aims to contribute to the field in some measure, encouraging an interface between the aesthetic and the political.
