Debayan Das
Debayan has completed his Bachelors in History from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and an MSc in Social Anthropology as a DAC Scholar at the University of Oxford. Debayan is a social worker dedicated to fostering community engagement, combining independent research and culture and heritage documentation, to amplify unheard voices and inspire positive change. When not in the field, he enjoys reading poetry and non-fiction, and treks through lesser-known trails chasing streams and sunsets somewhere in the Himalayas.

Suchintan Das
Suchintan is a Doctoral Candidate in Global and Imperial History at the University of Oxford where he is also a Rhodes and Beit Scholar. He is interested in war and empire in the twentieth century with particular reference to the history of encampment and internment in late- and post-colonial India. He writes occasional political commentaries, plays chess and enjoys music imbued with urban melancholia. His work can be accessed here.

Ananyo Chakraborty
Ananyo is a Doctoral Candidate in History at the Australian National University, supported by the Australian Government Research Training Programme (RTP) Scholarship. Having pursued his undergraduate and postgraduate education in History at the St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, and the University of Delhi respectively, he is currently working on an Environmental History of the Partition of India, focusing on transboundary rivers, shifting landmasses, and issues of territorial sovereignty. He is also the founder of Protorko, the first socio-political newsletter in Bengali. He regularly writes opinion pieces in English and Bengali for leading news platforms, practises music, and is most passionate about having unwashed addas with friends old and new.

Satyam Jha (2002-2021)

Satyam passed away due to COVID-19 on 25th May, 2021. A gifted and generous human being, Satyam enriched the Study Circle in the short time that he was associated with it.


Ritabrata Chakraborty
A graduate of Political Science from Hindu College, Delhi, Ritabrata Chakraborty is a student of management in IIM Lucknow who retains a personal interest in questions of Indian politics, political economy and the evolving education-industry dynamics in India. Besides writing occasional commentaries, he loves reading non-fiction in general and sampling various cuisines in particular.

Yanis Iqbal
Yanis Iqbal is studying Political Science at Aligarh Muslim University, India. He has published more than 300 articles on social, political, economic and cultural issues. He is the author of the forthcoming book “Education in the Age of Neoliberal Dystopia”.

Rayan Chakrabarti
Rayan Chakrabarti is an academic and poet working at the intersections of memory studies, critical heritage and medical anthropology. He is pursuing a Master’s degree in Arts and Aeshtetics from Jawaharlal Nehru University and holds an undergraduate degree in Literature from St Stephen’s College, New Delhi. He co-founded the Pandemic Archives which records visual and oral testimonies of people who survived COVID. He is a trained pianist and loves writing and translating different genres of performative and ekphrastic poetry. He is a Rhodes Scholar at the University of Oxford.
