The Sankrityayan Kosambi Study Circle, founded as a student-led collective on the 14th of December 2018, has decided to dissolve itself with immediate effect from the 30th of January 2026. The Lokayata blog will continue to exist in a form that will be decided in the coming months. It will, however, cease being the official mouthpiece of the Study Circle.
It was a difficult but necessary call. The Study Circle was built on the voluntary labour of its members. Given how widely we are now dispersed across continents, it has become impossible for us to collaborate in this space collectively anymore.
Seven years is a long time. Seven years is a short time. Many of us have been shaped by the Study Circle. It offered us a space to be intellectually curious, at times irreverently so. It afforded us friendships and camaraderie through a global pandemic and the destruction of the Indian public university. Now we carry the ideas and the spirit of the Study Circle in our lives beyond it, individually but not alone.
